Boule, French yes but not a ball insight

A method of inlaying brass normally finely hand chased brass into tortoiseshell.

The fine workmanship being enhanced by the three dimensional semi translucent effect given buy the tortoiseshell.

Particularly made for statement items like desks and desk related items such a inkstands, blotters, boxes etc. Including frames, at its height in c1860s through to the early 1900s.

Earlier in the Regency period c1820 in England we used tin inlay finely traced brass scroll work into particularly rosewood furniture, and this Boule work has taken one step further with the addition of much cast and gilded brass and ormulou appliques, going from the slightly restrained flowing floral designs to a much more busy and opulent effect.

Adding instant wow factor to any room.
