Bog oak
Basically oak wood trees that have fallen into a peat bog and by this action starved of air which ceases the normally deterioration and rotting of the wood.
Creating a super hard black wood that lends it self well to finely, if not a little folky carving, often with shamrocks and Irish harps etc. often commemorating places like Muckross Abbey or Blarney castle, and other famous Irish places.
A genre in its own right and a great thing area to collect.
