A Potted history of the Beswick Factory
Founded in 1894 by James Wright Beswick in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, the company was later run by his sons John and Gilbert, becoming John Beswick Ltd when his grandson, John Ewart Beswick, took the reins. Best known for their wildlife and domestic animal figurines, the company also produced Beatrix Potter characters. The company continued to expand and began manufacturing Disney characters, some of which are now highly sought after.
Beswick was sold to Royal Doulton in 1969 and in then in 2004 to Darlington Crystal.
