WW1 Lusitania Medal Antique c1915.

This medal dates from 1915-17 and was produced in the UK as a propaganda tool to commiserate the sinking of the Lusitania by the Germans. Theoretically it was a direct copy of a medal the Germans made to celebrate the event, but this has never been proved.

Although America was neutral at the start of the war over 100 US civilian lives were lost when the ship sunk prompting the US government to begin to start taking an interest in the war on the side of the Allies.

This medal was originally sold boxed with an information sheet as well.
