Originally worn as an amulet in ancient times to protect against evil eyes and from witches stealing milk or harming newborn babies & in Scottish culture called the Luckenbooth heart. In the 18th century the witches heart implied that the giver has become 'bewitched to fall in love' with the recipient.
Fantastic vintage 9ct yellow gold pendant or charm of a witches heart dating from the 1970's, a time when charm bracelets were very popular. Still collectable today, still hung as charms, as well as pendants from a chain necklace. The gold mark can be found to the bale ring.
