This is a lovely antique Victorian c1860 tortoiseshell lid to this cow horn snuff box. A snuff box is usually a small ornamented box for holding snuff, a scented, powdered tobacco. The practice of sniffing or inhaling a pinch of snuff was common in England around the 17th century; and when, in the 18th century, it became widespread in other countries as well, the demand for decorated snuff boxes, considered valuable gifts, increased.
Very minor edge cracks to the lid, the cow horn is in good order, please see the pictures. Good hinge to open & close. Simply charming collectable snuff box.
