Fantastic antique Victorian mourning brooch pin dating from a time when mourning jewellery was very popular in the 1860's. At this time Queen Victorian was plunged into deep mourning that would last for the rest of her long life at the death of her husband Prince Albert in 1861, & of course the rest of the country followed in the fashion of the Queen.
This brooch contains a large foiled back rock crystal to the centre surrounded by seed pearls. The seed pearls have the meaning of tears for the lost loved one. The rock crystal is in good order & has the colour of an amethyst see pictures. All set in 9ct yellow gold which has been tested as there are no marks. The rear of the brooch does not have any inscription. Good secure clasp & pin.
Size 2.6 x 2.2 cm or 1.0 x 0.9 inches.
