Saphiret Glass Crescent Moon Brooch Pin Antique Edwardian c1910.

Stunning flash of electric blue to these dark cabochon saphiret glass stones set in this crescent moon brooch pin dating from the Edwardian era.
Made in Gablonz, Czechoslovakia in the mid-19th century by mixing melted gold into sapphire-coloured glass resulting in a glass which looks brick red or brown, but reflects blue on the surface in the light. Because it is glass, these stones are rarely found set in precious metal. Production of this glass was stopped shortly after the turn of the century, due to it was no longer being cost-effective as gold had increased in value. Thus, pieces of jewelry containing saphiret are either Victorian, Edwardian, or Arts and Crafts.
The brooch itself is gilt metal with clear paste stone to the edges between the saphiret, some are missing please see the pictures. All the cabochon saphiret stones are present, are in good order & of a great dark colour, again please see the pictures. Good secure c clasp & pin.
Size 3.2 x 2.9 cm or 1.25 x 1.1 inches.
Weight 6.8 grams or 4.25 penny weight.
