Rare Sterling Silver Shaving Badger Brush Antique Georgian London circa 1825

Antique Early 19th Century King George IV era Very Rare Example of a Well preserved and surviving Travelers badger Brush or Shaving Brush in Sterling Silver with original sable bristles remarkably intact.

A three Piece Affair designed to be an enclosed unit when not is use so as to keep clean it comprises of a hollow handle, a screw cap terminal and the main badger brush fitting, these three pieces assemble neatly via way of threaded screw together fittings to construct a full size shaving brush and when not in use can be taken down so as to be a singular cylindrical silver object of Virtue, the barrel to the handle being handsomely detailed with a Crest image in the form of a Knights Armored Arm holding a broken Long Sword, no doubt being the house crest of the original owner or similar.

When assembled the shaving brush measures 16 cm in length or 6.2 inches, when taken down into its singular format it measures 8.3 cm in length or 3.25 inches, the handle tube has a diameter of 2.3 cm or 0.8 inches.

Having a weight of 54.7 grams or 1.75 Ounces Troy it makes for a very comfortable piece to wield in the hand, as with all things Georgian they were thoughtfully and skillfully made to the highest specification.

The Handle and screw cap terminal fittings to the brush are impressed with markings indicating London assay office circa 1825 along with the makers mark for John & Archibald Douglas, also present is the Duty mark for King George IV.

This Shaving Brush Makes for a Fine addition to any collection of Period Silver Ware as well as being a Fabulous Decorators piece within the home and still very much useable as originally intended. For sale by Top Banana Antiques.
