This pair of Chinese wooden chopstick rests are carved as lions with painted and gilt decoration. They date to the 19th century.  Temple Lions also known as Lion Dogs or Foo Dogs are a part of traditional Chinese decorations and architecture, they were thought to ward off harmful spiritual influences and are often found on palaces, temples and tombs.  In good antique condition with some wear to the paint and gilt, see photos.  They also have wax seals to their bases, see photos.
