Stunning antique Regency pinchbeck bracelet with a cannetille clasp containing two colour mourning hair dating from the late Georgian period. Jewellery containing a lost loved ones hair was popular in Georgian times reaching its heights during the 1860's when Prince Albert died & Queen Victorian spent the rest of her life in mourning for her dear husband.
This bracelet is made from pinchbeck, a material invented to imitate gold, originally used by the wealthy to copy priceless jewels allowing them to look fabulous on their summer progress without the risk of losing the priceless jewels to highwaymen.
The metal is not marked, all in good order including the cannetille work to the clasp. Good secure tongue & box clasp. To the front of the clasp is blond & brown mourning hair.
