Kewpie Doll Charm Vintage c1950

Midas Antiques

tbj6957

Featuring the cherub-face of a Kewpie doll, this is a charming vintage charm dating from the mid century circa 1950. Kewpie is a brand of dolls that were conceived as comic strip characters by the American cartoonist Rose O'Neill. The illustrated cartoons, appearing as baby cupid characters, began to gain popularity after the publication of O'Neill's comic strips in 1909, when O'Neill began to illustrate and sell paper doll versions of the Kewpies. We believe this little Kewpie to be made from metal, with an air hole to the rear as the doll is hollow. The paint is a little untidy on close inspection, please see the pictures but in my opinion this does not detract as not visible to the naked eye. There is no hanging bale, this Kewpie is a lucky charm.
Size 2.5 x 1.2 x 0.4 cm or 1.0 x 0.5 x 0.2 inches.
