Intaglio Seal ' Good Night All's Well ' Pinchbeck Fob Pendant Antique Victorian c1860.
Charming intaglio amethyst paste seal with the motto 'Good Night All's Well' with musical notes set in this pinchbeck fob pendant dating from the Victorian period.
Pinchbeck was invented by Christopher Pinchbeck to resemble gold & was used to create replica's of the wealthy's priceless jewellery, enabling them to go on summer progress from country estate to country estate looking fabulous but without the risk of theft from the Highwaymen as they travelled between houses. Coloured glass paste was used instead of real stones. Today pinchbeck has become a collectable metal in it's own right.
The pendant fob itself is pinchbeck, there are no marks. The seal is amethyst colour paste, great colour & with only very minor wear to the edges. The motto itself has a scratch across both music sections & the 1st letter L in 'all's' see pictures.
Originally fobs were worn from watch chains, however today I have seen them being worn from a necklace as a pendant or a collection of seals on a charm bracelet.
