An interesting brass Trench Art paper knife with a cartridge handle packed full of symbolism. This Antique WWI 1914-1918 letter opener is partly formed as a Maltese Cross, symbol of protection or means willing to lay down your own life to safe others. On one side engraved with Arras 1914 and the other side and oak leaf and acorn, symbols of power, endurance and strength. Arras is a city in Northern France' known for the Carrier Wellington, a network of quarry tunnels used by soldiers in WWI.
