Ancient Ruin Grand Tour Antique Georgian c1820 Micro Mosaic 18k Gold Ring.
Fantastic antique Regency Grand Tour micro mosaic of an ancient ruin to the front of this 18ct yellow gold ring. The gold ring shank itself dates much later. During the early 1800's wealthy young gentleman often travelled around Europe to see the ancient sites on their 'Grand Tour' collecting souvenirs to return home with, often micro mosaics were collected.
The English gold hallmark can be found to the inside of the band, this is where you see an anchor for the Birmingham assay office along with the date letter for the year 2010. The gold detailing around the head of the ring is in good order. The micro mosaic is set in black onyx, which has edge nibbles. All the tesserae tiles are present, but there is a clear varnish over the top which has an indent visible when moved in the light, please see the pictures. Fantastic ring.
