9k Gold Double Albert Watch Chain Necklace Antique Victorian 1876 English Hallmark.
Fantastic quality with good crisp marks this is a fabulous 9ct yellow gold double albert watch chain with antique English hallmarks for the Victorian period. This is a time when every well dressed gentleman worn a watch chain in his waistcoat or to his overcoat, today they can be worn as a wide chain necklace.
All the links of the chain are marked '9 .375', the T bar & both dog clip clasps are also marked '9 .375' along with the makers mark 'J.G&S' for John Grinsell & Sons.The dating of the chain can be found to the ring that links the T bar pendant as a well as a tiny chain for a pendant fob, this is where you find the anchor mark for the Birmingham assay office along with the date letter 'b' for 1876.
Both chains are of the same length & if worn as a necklace the T bar falls to the front of the neck. Both dog clip clasp are secure with a good spring to open & close. Simply fantastic antique Victorian chain.
