9ct Gold Seed Pearl & Ruby Brooch Hallmarked Chester Antique 1902 English.

Isle Temple

An absolutely stunning 9ct gold Edwardian brooch typical of the period. This beautiful example dates from 1902 and is has seed pearls and rubies set into a flower shape and fabulous filigree decoration. The brooch is fully hallmarked for 9ct gold, Chester and the date letter for 1902. Chester is an extremely sought after assay mark, particularly their jewellery, due to the fact they are no longer open. Chester has been shut since the late 1960s and its jewellery is not a common sight on the market. The brooch looks to have once upon a time been plated in a higher carat gold, this was sometimes done to give the piece a richer more opulent colour, some of this plate has worn away revealing the 9ct rose gold underneath. The hinge has a slight wobble but is still in good working order.
