A pretty little 9ct gold and seed pearl (possibly river pearls) Mourning brooch. The mourning brooch was designed to put lockets of hair in so people could remember loved ones that have passed away, before photography was invented and more affordable. No hair in this brooch. The pin has broken off and there are some scratches and dinks commensurate with age, as found. It has been tested for gold as there are no markings to be found. Antique Victorian c.1870.
