Antique Edwardian period circa Top Quality Sterling Silver Mounted Chatelaine Multi-Tool Sewing Aide with steel tool fittings, the Silver mounted body to the tool being finished with a banded Off set pattern in relief.

The Chatelaine Tool features a series of fold out sewing aides including a fabric punch, button hook, scissors and a cutting blade, these were popular with Nannies employed by wealthy households in the 19th century and had a revival in the Edwardian period, the chatelaines and others like them served so as to make on the spot repairs to minded Children's clothes as they play or otherwise when out and about as well as a personal sewing aide, usually accompanied by a 'Nanny pin' which traditionally held needle and thread.

This handsome example weighs 38.8 grams or 1.24 Ounces Troy and when closed measures 5.7 cm in length or 2.2 inches and when open with fittings extended it measures 10 cm in length or 4 inches

The terminal to one end of the Chatelaine features a Stirrup bale and lug so as to serve for when wearing the item as an accompaniment to a Chatelaine belt or as a fob item on a long guard or similar.

Marked to the silver for London assay office circa 1903 with the makers mark for Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings the item is in Very good Antique condition throughout save for the spring plate missing to the folding scissors it makes for a lovely period collectible piece and a fine addition to the curio cabinet as well as being a useful addition to a working sewing box within the home.
